I think it's similar to computers...ram really didn't catch up until recently. we were hitting quad core before people needed four gigs...and only so much ram was needed because windows is a memory hog. You can still get by on only four gigs most times.

With as streamlined as Android is I'd say more raw horsepower before more ram. Maybe quad core phones will have two gigs. Hopefully the storage starts getting bigger... With these phones being mini computers and all

Hopefully at some point smartphones will become even more like computers with upgradable hardware, at least upgradable ram and storage anyway...I can imagine a where you get to select the amount of ram and memory you want just like a computer. Like a basic user would buy the version with maybe 16 gb internal memory and 1 gb ram, whereas someone who likes running intensive apps and games and just lots of apps in general would get a 32 gb internal memory and 2 gb ram

2 years! Seems like an eternity since the OG came out.

I remember getting mine Dec '09. What a fun day! I couldn't sleep that night, cause I was so excited to get up early Sat to the vzw store. It was on the 27th so there was still that "warm" Christmas glow around still. Everything about that day was magical...

Never will have that feeling again.

That reminds me of when I got mine, which was early Dec 09, and the first night I couldn't sleep because the default mail setting was the "DROIDDDDD" sound and at the time had no idea what that setting was, kept waking me up, figured it was email, but after hearing it about 10 times I just stayed up and played with it :)

Got my beloved D1 in Dec 09. Thanks to the AWESOME devs, my phone is still speedy and reliable, even more so today than a year ago. I'm confident it would last me another 2 years, but the Nexus will be my new baby. Maybe my ol' droid can be a dash cam. haha

Happy Birthday Droid Forums! Last month I upgraded to the Bionic after having the Droid 1. I still have the Driod 1 charged and ready to go. It keeps my 4-year-old occupied on occasion. In addition, I'll pop back onto it for the "nostalgia".

Wow, I can't believe it's only been 2 years since the OG Droid came out. That phone started my dark journey into becoming a cell phone degenerate. Thanks!................. I think...

Didn't buy it at launch -- still use it though...

I didn't buy mine at launch, pretty close though.

The ear piece finally gave up the ghost, and I had to replace her with a D2G, let me tell you, I hate the locked bootloader of D2G. I wish I still had a functional speaker on my OGDroid. Now it sits in it's little multimedia desktop dock and I use it to stream videos from my server via UPNPlay and MoboPlayer via Wifi. Works great when I'm at home and using all my other monitors for work, and I want to take a Netflix break. I have it OC'd to 1100 and Netflix is liquidity smooth.

When I first got my OG Droid (December 2009), I knew NOTHING about smartphones and had never even used one. I knew what the iPhone was but had never used one. The only reason I got the OG Droid is because my girlfriend at the time used to always brag about her phone (some crappy windows phone that actually looked awesome back then compared to my dumb phone) and I wanted something better than her. After being with AT&T for 10+ years, I had just become a new Verizon customer that December and I just decided to go with the best phone they had to offer at the time (OG Droid) so I could show my ex-gf up. When the phone finally arrived in the mail, it BLEW ME AWAY. Up to that point, I had only been using dumbphones and I had no idea how awesome smartphones are. I haven't looked back sense and can't believe that it took me so long to cross over into the smartphone world. Using smartphones has literally changed my life and I feel like everyone should own one. I just look at dumbphone owners in pity like "you just don't know what you're missing". But then again, I know people with smartphones that only use 10% of their capabilities.

First and last time I'll every get a phone first thing in the morning day of launch. But she's still kickin'....barely. I still marvel that this hardware and a bit of software make things like Sky Map possible! \o/:icon_ banana:

Got my OG Droid on day 1 at Best Buy and never looked back. I still carry it daily. It's rooted, overclocked and running a custom ROM. It's also still in mint condition. I'm planning on upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus, but my OG Droid will still get constant use as a multimedia device.
