Handcent SMS issues

I've been using this app for texting because I like the pop up notifications. However, it crashes CONSTANTLY, sometimes 5-6 times per day. Up until recently, it would just fail to open when I clicked on the icon and I'd have to reboot my phone to get it to work again. Over the last week or so, I've been getting a lot of Force Close notifications, which when I do a force close I'm able to re-open the app. I like the app, but this is getting very frustrating... suggestions are welcome.
I have not rooted or messed with the phone in any way other than installing apps.

Try clearing the cache. Menu, settings, applications, manage apps, then scroll down to handcent and tap on it. Tap clear cache and see if you have any more problems.

I don't have a incredible but I was having problems with handcent on my dx. Fc and laggy, So I switched to Go sms pro. It Still have a pop option along with everything else handcent offered and somethings it didn't. I using it on my gn now and it works great.

I saw someone post that HandCent has been updated in the market as well.. That might help with your issues as well.

Just had another force close, so apparently clearing the cache didn't help.
I believe it was recently updated, I'll double check on that before I dump it.
Go SMS was recommended, are there others to look into?

Edit- there was an update posted just today, I just installed it...

go SMS pro is all I use now. N plus I use go keyboard as Well. No problems here
