H.264 videos don't play . . . sometimes

My video conversion tool of choice is Handbrake. Works great, makes H.264 videos playable on all of my equipment, including my Droid.

However, over time the Droid will decide that it doesn't want to play those videos (Gallery will give the error message that it can't open or play the file). When this happens I also lose the AAC music files that normally play without error.

A simple reboot of the phone will bring this function back until a few weeks later, it happens again.

Anybody else having this problem? Any idea what in the phone is killing off the ability to play these files?

Thanks.
