I just love all the parenting advice on here, especially when unsolicited. I have a 7 and an 11 year old, both with droids. Both have summer camp and after school activities. And yes, I do trust them, but there are a lot of wackos in the world that i don't trust. Sure, a kidnapper can throw out the phone, if they know they have it, I loved having chaperone on their other phones, and have also been looking for a good replacement. There is no perfect way to protect your child, but I will take all the help I can get, especially in this day in age.

Thanks for the recommendations from all

Okay, here's a question. I have a Droid for some time, and really like it. Recently my 18-year-old son just got a Droid X. We are on a family plan with shared minutes.

I'd like to be able to locate his phone. It's not just to be nosy, but also for practical reasons. He was driving over the mountains here in western North Carolina as snow was falling tonight, which was very worrying to me, and it would have been nice to know where exactly he was.

Also, he has a tendency to lose stuff. If you give him something, he loses it. It doesn't matter if it's a donut, a passport, or an Ipod---he loses it. It is an absolute certainty that some time in the next two years he will lose his phone.

On the Verizon Family Locator information on their site, it says that the plan costs $9.99 a month. But then it says 'per line'. So my question is, if I get the Family Locator, is it going to be $9.99, or $19.98? If the latter, I'm going to look into alternatives. But if it's $10 a month, I might just pay that. Thanks for your help.

    a few ideas

I have heard this is good. $4.99 per month www.life360.com

    I
have also used mobile spy and phone sheriff in the past (yearly charge). These worked well for GPS tracking with my daughter's previous phone but are not working now for GPS tracking on her new phone.

The need for these programs depends on your kids. Don;t judge others - if you have a teen you need it for, you know it. If you don't you don't. I need it for one of my children but not the other. Its a safety issue. It has been invaluable to me.

Seekdroid or where's my droid are the best options I have found.

Im not sure but I think you can hide either one , my go to being seekdroid.

Works really well and their mobile web page is designed for smartphones. Very very easy to navigate.

There's a new app called inViu routes that tracks up to 4 Android phones for free! You can even set geonotes - location-based notifications - that will send you an alert when your kid enters/leaves a specified location. You can download it on Google Play. Hope that helps!

    FindYourKids: A GPS Locator

FindYourKids: A GPS Locator is an app made for exactly that. I got it from Google Play. Some people think that a parent is invading the privacy of a child by using this type of software. Of course, like a gun, it depends on how you use it. I would never invade their privacy but I would use it if they don't come home from school.

I have two kids and this can be very useful. I used it to pick them up from DisneyLand in Anaheim. Not sure I would have found them otherwise.
