Does anyone know of a GPS app that has a basic map that gets stored on the phone itself? I'm flying later today and I want to try using my Droid to see where we are... I can't use Maps though because of the lack of a data connection to actually get the map downloaded.

Oh - that is a GREAT question! I hope you get an answer! I love taking photos from the airplane, and I'd love to geocode them as I go. I am so curious to know what the heck I am looking at from the window.

Got it! "Maps (-)" on the market caches the map tiles locally and still allows use of GPS in airplane mode. I used wifi and then went along the expected route of the flight zooming in a few levels at each point and it's all cached on the SD card now. I'll post back on how it worked after the flight later today.
