I got a 500 text message plan for my droid eris from verizon and realized it wasnt enough. But then i read something about google voices and how it is free sms texting. I looked online but couldnt get it. If someone could just please tell me a well detailed (doesnt have to be amazing just wanna get it) summary for me from how to get to how to finish. I would be very happy. TYVM

Ps: can you tell me if when i send a text through it will my origional number show and if their is any way itll cost me a text. i just wanna make sure is all. TYVM (again)

not about that. there are tons of programs you can get, like AIM or facebook chat so you don't have to go through your texts.

Google Voice should already be available in Market

Even if Afgroyalty downloaded the app it wouldn't work since he doesn't have a Google Voice account yet. It's mainly a service. The app is just used for that service.

Not everyone has a smartphone and some confirmation/notification texts (i.e. from banks and such) don't use IM clients to send messages.

First of all, you would need a Google Voice account and that is easier said than done to wait for an invite. If you want to speed up the process of getting a Google Voice account, I suggest buying one from ebay. It will save you the hassle of waiting for one. Once you do buy one there, then let me know and we will go on from there.

I mean to the people that he might be instant messaging to, not everyone has a smartphone and a data plan. Also, I'm talking about services from banks (such as transaction confirmations) where they send you text confirmations. They don't use IM clients to send those confirmations to your phone.

Wow, I didn't have any idea they were selling Google Voice invites on eBay. Something just doesn't seem right about that.

Yeah, I bought mine from some guy in Singapore. Supply and demand, I guess.

That's even worst. It's getting outsourced. No wonder we are in a recession!
