On paper it's a viable idea but realistically there have been plenty of devices to overcome that. Also, other than a splash or two how much liquid do you really want to expose your phone to? I understand that yea splashing on the counter top, get caught in a rain shower, drop in the toilet, drop in a puddle, but come on. I'd really more emphasis be placed on screen resilience and/or battery optimization! Gorilla Glass is always 50% better yet still breaks, and batteries still need a babysitter at the end of the day...

me, I carry a sandwich bag in my wallet in case I am caught out in an heavy rain.

yes some manufacturers have ports and phones are waterproof too but here are limits based on the way the phone is designed. which brings another point as to why they are getting rid of the ports. case design. give more space for other stuff, apple even says it gave their phones 14 percent more battery life.

the reality is, you are stuck without one. just use a dongle if you want to use wire.

It's bc headphone jacks are yesterday its all about what is the latest... And it always will be... from smaller phones to larger phones to no bezel phones to no jack phones.. It will always be the case.. I do agree I don't feel the need yet to remove it until you have advanced enough that not having it is a slam dunk positive... Myself I don't ever want to use a wired headset I know some offer better audio experience but for my everyday usage it's wireless all the way. And these newer headphones go days over week easily for me before a charge.. I do understand why peeps miss it..

iphone users like the status symbol of the white wire running from their phone to their ear. I guess that is why they are upset that the jack is gone. I wonder how the sound quality is through the dongle.

I've tried the dongle and didn't notice any difference at all.. I actually have it attached to my wire in my bag for the one day I don't pay attention and my headphones die on commute... I haven't had that problem yet but there is always a chance... Haha

Apples plug is also proprietary, i think. So it would make financial sense for them
