Sorry my post didn't seem to make it clear folks. It's not an update to the app. It's a server-side update, and it is probably already on your phone. You just need to follow the instructions I added in the story: Settings > Language and input > Text-to-Speech output > Settings (the gear icon) > Language and choose English (United States) instead of Use system language.

Of course, it's possible that if you aren't on a Nexus device, you may not have the option that is different, so YMMV.
I don't hear much difference. My options under English (United States) don't really sound any more smooth than my options under English (United Kingdom).

Yeah... I went back and listened again. Maybe my update didn't actually change anything. Perhaps it is only available to a few.

We can follow directions. Lol We did it. No joy.
Odd coincidence there's a TTS update, too, I guess.

Yeah. I thought it had changed for me, but it hasn't. Maybe it's either a bogus story (faked video), or it simply hasn't changed for some users. Weird.

Here's a bit more info. This is a quote from a 9to5google story:

"Regardless, the update is rolling out very slowly, as none of our dozens of devices have yet to receive it. The user who posted the video received the new voice last night and is using a 2nd-generation Moto X."

How do you activate the other voices? I couldn't figure it out.

Yeah, no difference here either on my phone. I hear the difference in the first post's video, but it's not making it's obviously not making its way through everywhere yet.

Apparently just examples. Some choice would be cool.

Huh? If you select the circle, that's the one you selected. Variations of the same voice if you ask me, but still a choice.

I'm not convinced that things like navigation use the tts engine though. Like I said, I've had times where I set it to be British in tts & it wasn't.

Weird. Just got a text and it was the guy asking. But Google Now is the default.

In the video it appears that this voice selection / change only affects the Google Now voice? Maybe the other apps, like Maps, get their voice settings from another option or setting somewhere?

I'm confused. I turned off Moto Voice a few weeks ago. Driving mode kicks in when driving. The male voice reads my text. But navi and Google Now is the default voice. So who's reading me my text? Lol #Creepy

I think it was the S4, I had the Samsung tts as well as Google's.

I set up the Samsung voice as my option because it was smoother at the time & made her British.

While navigating, it was usually American and obviously the Google voice, but occasionally she'd start of British & then switch.

Idk what those other apps use as their voice setting, but it's confusing as hell. I need an option for "make every 'system voice announcement' with this voice option".
