I'm using a themed rom that apparently complicated things for me(?). Your process worked but I had to do another step. When I got to 6-8, I did not have an uninstall option. I then went to root explorer and searched for "maps". I found another file in /system/data/data/. It was com.android.google.apps.maps (I think that was the name). I then deleted this file and went back to step 6 and finished out as listed above.

    Thanks Christim

That's a pain. Ok...are you willing to reflash SG6.0 and then follow the above steps?

If so, you won't have to wipe data and cache so all your apps and settings will still be intact. I'm guessing something somehow got deleted. rename the file to bak and if all goes well then you can delete once you know you don't need it. I just did these steps myself as I typed them up because I had the same issue. I saw the new maps was out and couldn't update/install, just like you can't now.

edit: Ips...see post above this one too. I'm assuming you are on SG6.0 because this thread is in Adamz area within the roms section of the forum. (Glad it helped you BayouFlyfisher!)

If your having issues installing 4.1...go into settings > applications > manage apps > removed all updates on google maps, and then redownloaded and installed the update.

    adb root
    adb remount
    adb shell rm /system/app/Maps.apk
    adb uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps

Run thru adb on computer then redownload, I went into adb and started at the 3rd line. Works!!!
