Im having serious problems with google maps and this rom. New update just came out and it wouldn't install so i tried deleting the apk from /system using root explorer, hoping it would work if I deleted the old one. Still wont work, says it is unable to install.

after you deleted the file, have you tried to reboot and then delete the com.* file that shows up in managed apps?

Try this home/menu/apps/manage apps/menu/filter/show all/ find the one for googles maps and uninstall. Then go to market and try the new one.

This rom has the least problems of any ive used so far.... I probably shouldnt have deleted maps from the /system folder... any easy way to get it back sense the new update isnt working

EDIT: I used root explorer and went to /system / apps and removed the maps.apk... removing google maps from my phone, and attemtped to instal the update, did not work.
Reinstalling the ROM replaced maps, but the update still will not work.

EDIT2: Another thing i noticed is that i no longer get notifications when apps are updated in the market... I used to on other ROMS ive used.

since you deleted the file, now reboot your phone and if you go under apps/manage apps and you will see a file com.*.*(i forget what the file name is that is associated with maps) delete that file and you should be able to reinstall

i had to delete the file from the system/app folder, then reboot, then went into manage apps and deleted the rogue com.* file(it wont have an icon). i then was able to install the update, which was really a new install.

    1) opened the app Root Explorer
    2) navigated to /system/apps and made the folder Read/Writeable
    3) longpress on maps.apk to rename the maps.apk to maps.apk.bak (remove it if you wish...I don't like deleting things)
    4) made the folder Read/Only
    5) rebooted
    6) menukey > Settings/Applications/Managed Applications/ menukey > filter > all
    7) located com.android.google.apps.maps which has a size of 0.00b
    8) clicked it and uninstalled
    9) went to the market, located and installed maps.
    10) enjoy

I had already done everything up to step 6, followed from there. Sorted all and didnt see it, then sorted by size and scrolled down to 0. Wasnt there.
Tried to download it again, download completed but instillation was not successful

EDIT: went back in after a failed attempt at installing and its there now...and it installed. Thanks for the help
