google maps when data connection lost

    hello, i can't figure out if we can download maps from google to use in navigation or any other time, when running google maps or navigating on the droid.

    it'd be nice to download your greater area when you have 3g available and still be able to see where you are when in areas without a data connection available.

    Good question. Think I've asked it before. I'd like to be able to download info for a trip with more than just the highway/road I'm on in case of data loss. That gets a little scary...

    I think there are solutions but precaching is a PITA IMO. I'd suggest looking into a GPS nav app that stores map data locally. IIRC there are threads on precaching solutions.
