Do I need a data/phone connection to use google maps when I go overseas or can I just connect to the satellite offline? I remember Google Maps 5.0 allowed for offline saving of maps but how can I select which tiles it saves? EDIT: From what I read this feature is only available for "places" as in businesses and landmarks.

I have a Greek keyboard and Google Maps has incorporated all of Greece, but when I turn disable data from the mobile network settings under settings Google maps cannot get a signal and provide directions.

Are there any other options for offline satellite navigation for Greece that you might be aware of? All I find is NDrive Greece for $42.62! ouch

Thanks,

Google Maps requires data though you can manually cache with the latest update. I'd suggest finding an app with locally stored maps though. I don't know offhand which apps have map data for Greece. Have you checked with the usual suspects (CoPilot, Navigon)?
