Alright... I'm having a problem with root explorer - I can't get the damn thing to work. Every time I open it (and yes I granded SU permission when I first opened it) it just goes into the app and stays at a blank screen, I don't see any files at all or anything. And then when I press the home key to get out of it, it FC's on me.

    What is going on?

Is there any way to do this without root explorer? I really want the new version of google maps, I got root explorer specifically in order to accomplish that, and now it seems that I'm at a roadblock.

That's odd I've never had a problem with Root Explorer maybe try uninstalling it then reinstall or give it awhile longer to load.

You can also use Terminal Emulator.
Open Terminal Emulator and type in:

    su
    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    rm /system/apps/maps.apk
    mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system

(make sure you hit enter after each line of text)
reboot and you should be able to install Google Maps.

You can also try Linda Application Manager.
    Open Linda App Manager
    Find Google Maps
    Long press
    Uninstall
    Done

    using terminal emulator

I tried using the terminal emulator to remove it, but I get an error that says something to the effect of "file not found"

but I can still run maps just fine, so the file is clearly somewhere.

    help?

Okay, I got RootExplorer working finally, I downloaded a new version from gMob.

Anyway... I went into Root Explorer, renamed Maps.apk to Maps.apk.bak, did that stuff. Rebooted.

Went into /data/ in root explorer, deleted the whole folder... tried installing maps from the market and it said it was incompatible. So now I'm using the original maps again... wth is going on?

Did you try uninstalling after deleting the folder?

It doesnt even show up in there, so no

Edit - I do see com.google.android.apps.maps in the Manage Apps list with Filter All applied. But I can't uninstall it, it doesn't give me that option, so what should I do?
