There are many reasons to root your device. Xposed Framework, remove bloatware, and true full phone backups are all great reasons to root your device even in 2016. There are also plenty of reasons you would want to hide root on your device. Mainly being able to use Android Pay and the ability to continue playing PokeMon Go are the benefits of hiding your root! Today Google made a huge change to their safetynet API which exposes root users.

The change makes root hiding apps like SUHide and AutoMagisk obsolete. Due to the update root access can no longer be hidden. The good news is that the app developers will likely be able to fix their apps to go along with the update to the Safetynet api. This has been a cat and mouse game for quite some time. Currently Google has the upper hand.

Corporate accounts. Corporations want to know and see the devices their people are issued are secure. ROOT means not as secure.

There is big money in corporate and government contracts for devices.
