Have been tempted to update manually but reading everyone's post update reports and this issue with Google Earth missing have held off.

My colleague got her update OTA and didn't install til just now. She walked over to show me the live wallpaper and I asked to borrow to search the market and guess what - no Google Earth - only Google Earth Blog and other stuff.

So - building evidence that the application might have been pulled rather than something related to performing a manual vs OTA update.

Unless folks can provide other similar instances where apps have gone missing post manual update - this may not be an issue at all OR at least not an issue with manual vs OTA.

Hope this helps.

Yeah i'm about 100% sure there is no way for them to tell if you did it manually or OTA. From everything i've seen they removed it. QR link doesn't work, you can't search for it, the direct link from google gives you a force close.

I might suspect it has something to do with they only want the nexus to have it right now ;)

Its definitely not an issue with over the air or manual update
I think they might be optimizing it for the droid.
2.1 was not "officially" available for the Droid until the first 200,000 got it. I updated early manually and I got it when it was available. I think they pulled it, because I have noticed one bug, Google earth will lock up after a while until I hit menu settings>clear map cache.

I think JCo352 may be right.

Because New2U, 928Droid and Oatmealboy all downloaded it right after they updated but now cannot find it via Market search on their devices.

The only thing that changed was time.

This might be slightly OT. But why is everyone worried about Google Earth anyway? How are you actually using this, other than for fun? Google maps offers practical, usable version of related technology already. And doesn't this app take up a lot of space? Just wondering if I need to download this when I am able.

If this were the case, why would it still be showing in the market for some users (myself included). I have no trouble searching for it or browsing to it in the Travel category.

I have no idea what a "GISS" is. But i don't think that I am one. So, I'm not going to sweat that I can't download this thing...unless you can convince me otherwise? :):)

It's like asking, why could we see it and now we can't, if we couldn't see it ever, that's one thing, but we COULD see it and now we can't. So the answer is still very unknown.

GISS is a GIS specialist.
