I'm wondering if it will have any functionality that I can use.

If I use it in a wifi zone, will I incur huge data charges? Is there any work around that would give me at least some functionality?

Thanks gang.

I wouldn't...Pick up a cheap-o with a local sim card when you get there if you need a phone.

If you do take it and the wifi was free there and you keep it in airplane mode you'll be fine.

Late last year, we travelled to Canada. As soon as we crossed the border I lost data. I was abel to make calls and text. When we arrived in Montreal I connected to available wifi. Interestingly, I was able to text and was not charged any additional fees. Not sure if this is the same for Europe. Call VZW and ask them then let us know, please.
