GMAIL update error anyone?

    Running 4.7, got message that package was not signed properly when I tried to update...any thoughts as to what I should do?

    It is probably because gmail is a system/app if you have Root Explorer go into system/app and find gmail.apk and rename it to gmail.apk.bak and then reboot your phone go to the Market and install the newest version of gmail...after a clean install you can go back to system/app and delete the gmail.apk.bak file

    Got the same error about 8 hours ago. Use titanium backup to delete it. If you don’t have this, it is free in the market. Once you remove gmail 2.2, you must restart before you attempt to download and successfully install it. Conventional removal of the gmail app won't work because it is tied into the OS.

    here is another way if you aren't comfortable with deleting the app through root explorer.

    first uninstall any updates to gmail you have downloaded from the market. look in settings>applications>manage applications>all. if it doesn't say you have any that's fine.

    download this update.zip and install like normal.
