Gingerbread for droid 2

This may sound dumb to some, but I wonder if rooted Droid 2's (I have the Global one) will get Gingerbread also, assuming it's coming, of course.

Its been confirmed for d2g by p3droid. Would have to have all the bloat etc required to get ota updates though. I would assume its also coming to d2's also but would require same.

how was it possible to root the d1 regardless of OS version (see thread with this title) ... ?
is there no similar method available for the d2 ? it's nice that it's as easy as z4root, but when 2.3 is officially available from vzw, it would be a disappointment waiting for it to get rooted before i can confidently allow the update to download on the device ....

The d1 doesn't have a locked bootloader and allows replacing the stock recovery.
