Many GIFs don't work on Android. From a developer perspective, you have to open them as if they were movies instead of still pictures, and even if you do it right it often doesn't work. Android is very picky about how well formed the GIFs have to be. There is probably a bug on b.android.com about it one could star if they wanted to vote to get the issue fixed.
