Alright, so I'm not looking for an ethics lecture or anything, but I would like to know what it takes for Verizon to replace your phone, assuming you are still under warranty.

This is partly because I know that electronics can deteriorate in quality over time, and it would be good just to have refreshed one. The other reason is that even though I am very careful with my phone 99% of the time, but one unfortunate incident involving my Moto Droid sliding face down on cement left the area surrounding the screen pretty banged up.

What I am looking for are known issues that Verizon will replace your phone for. Previously, my keyboard slide was not working quite properly and they gave me a new one for that, but unless I purposely break the slide, I shouldn't use that one again. What if my camera button "fell" off? Anyone have any advice for me to be able to get Verizon to give me a new phone?

Also, and this is a little off topic, what does it take for Verizon to give you a free upgrade before your time is up? I have heard with some other companies, that if you replace your phone a number of times, and it is not your fault, you may be able to choose a different phone.

Thanks for any advice you guys might have.

I've had a couple replaced. First one had dead pixels. Second one didn't come with the film behind the keyboard and it slid open in my pocket. Both times they basically just said, "OK we'll send you another phone".

I've also had a multi-fru back when I had an LG Dare and went through 5 bad ones in a row. I finally called them up and told them I had a big problem with this and they offered me some sort of LG phone (it was a step down.....from a Dare lol) but this does effect your upgrade date. And don't think they will multi-fru you to a brand new X or anything.

Verizon won't give you a free upgrade unless your phone is replace with a "known issue" over three times.

Also, they would only multi-fru an upgraded phone if your current phone is discontinued or not in stock.

sad to say, but if your phones only issue is "cosmetic" you're gonna have a bit of a time trying to get them to replace it unless something else happens to it i.e. getting run over, wet or something of that nature and even then you're gonna pay $80 to replace it providing you have insurance...good luck.

All you have to do is go in, tell them that you have had a problem that the phone reboots every so often... maybe 3-5 times a day. Tell them you called CS and went through the steps with them. Then say that after a day or so, it was doing the same thing. They will replace it right then and there.

Just kidding... we all know cell phone companies are all basically thieves. Might as well get back what you can, huh? :p
Just go in and say your apps and data keep disappearing and your phone keeps rebooting and you tried pushing the wipe button in the privacy menu to see if it fixed it, but it came back up saying you have low memory even though there weren't any apps installed, blah blah blah — that's what happens in a bad memory block error (but don't say you know it's a bad block error) and as far as technical issues go, they're one of the more common ones, and in addition, it's not visible on the phone. They more than likely will not even look at it for more than 5 seconds.

Don't bother doing any actual damage to your phone on purpose, because if you do that there's a high chance they'll blame you and you'll get nothing (other than an offer to get a crappy phone with a contract extension at a still-exorbitant price). They can't really deny the bad block error unless they actually run some sort of test for it. And even then the worst that can happen is they'd say "Uh, there's nothing wrong with your phone."

As you probably know, they don't just replace it on the spot, though. You'll have to wait a day or two. And it'll be a refurb.

I think some of you missed or overlooked this part...

There is PHYSICAL DAMAGE to the device caused by the owner!

Verizon will more than likely say that the damage to your device caused your problems if you go in saying something crazy, therefore voiding a warranty claim. If you don't have insurance get it, wait a few days then take it in and see what they say. Another option is to look on ebay or somthing similar to find replacement parts and fix it yourself. Either way, the most you should have to spend is $80 and you will still have your droid.(I know that's not what you wanted to hear) I'm not trying to rain on your parade, and I could be totally wrong here. I hope to god for your sake that I am. I'd hate for you to go in blind expecting the world, and come out empty-handed. Once again...good luck!

Well, you certainly need one. Rationalize your stealing anyway you want to, but that doesn't change what it is.
