GB ROMs and bricks

I'm going to flash my first custom ROM this weekend and wanted to make sure that the scare/threat of bricking my phone if I flash a gb ROM was a thing of the past. Am I correct? The stuff I have read said the developers advised to flash back to froyo ROMs but I didn't know if that info was out of date.

With the new radios the threat of brick has gone way down...just go over to xda and read carefully

I guess the radios that I found to download were the old mr2 and mr2.5 ones on xda. Has their been a newer one released since the OTA update was released?
