If you own the Note 4 on Verizon or if you have owned any touchwiz device on Verizon in the past then you already know the pain that comes with owning these devices. The wait for root seems to never end. The Note 3 took several months to receive root, and so far we are experiencing the same with the Note 4. We are now fast approaching $10k in the Note 4 root bounty thread! This is great because such a high amount can potentially bring some security experts around that wouldn't ordinarily look at a touchwiz or verizon device. A large bounty brought Geohotz around and he pretty much rooted the Galaxy S5 overnight, and released the towelroot app. Hopefully the bounty will continue to grow and we will see a root soon.

it's a bit sad that it has to get to this for a device to be rooted.

this should be a non-issue.

good to see it's growing and I'll be able to upgrade to something soon

This assumes everyone that pledged will actually pay up.

Won't it be easier to root the current OS and then for a dev to create a Lollipop rom from say the open Nexus version for use on the Note 4?

The same issue was raised when the bounty on the S5 got up there. It was later reported the developer got much more than originally "pledged". (The same thing happened with the S3 & 4) While there will always be those who pledge and never pay, most people do pay. Not to mention those that pay and don't bother to "pledge". After seeing root obtained on numerous Galaxy S devices over the years, I have no doubt it will happen for this device as well. And the developer will be rewarded handsomely, as he should.
