I have tested this out tonight by editing my framework_res files along with gmail_res, and email_res.

Replace those bland looking stock icons with any you choose. As long as they are .png icons. :icon_ devil:

But remember kiddies, do so at your own risk!

I give credit to blake2050 for giving me the ideal to check.

The icons in the status bar are gmail, usb connected, and usb de-bugging.

Well, I could... but this is more of an FYI to those that like to mod. My point is, that you can download any 32x32 .png icons you choose, to change out the stock ones in any of the .apk res files. And have those display on the status bar. As long as you re-name them the exact same as the ones you are replacing.

I'll post a pic or two soon.

Here are a few more just for example.

I appreciate the icons posted and am just starting to dabble into this. My question is do I need to resign the apk file? I tried replacing an icon I liked for the GMail notification. It's the same dimensions (25x25) but a different size. It is a PNG file. When I replace the icon with mine and try to install the apk file, I get an "Gmail application could not be installed." I'm using Linda File Manager to install it. Thanks for any advice.

Im going to do an end around and answer your question. First I would install metamorph and then grab a theme such as xeodus. Inside his theme there is a gmail folder. What you can do is either mix and match your icons with his, or delete his icons and puts your icons in the folder etc. With metamorph then you can choose just to install the gmail themes, and then this would install your modifications if they are in the gmail folder. All of this without a reinstall, or a reboot.

Yes, what kevdog has stated is the absolute easiest way, and the only way I tried. So I would say, the recommended method.

This worked perfectly! Thanks for the detailed instructions. I couldn't believe how easy it was to do this. I'd been trying to do this the hard way all this time.
