As a new droid user, I am learning of all the capabilities available by installing new home applications instead of the stock home format or possibly rooting the phone for more freedom.

Are there new releases on the horizon that will eliminate some of these needs? Anybody know what updates/new features may be on the horizon?

It seems a lot of people who rooted their phones were opearting on some of the original software and continued to tinker with their rooted phones. Will this be as necessary in the future or will there always be significant inherent limitations?

Rooted phones 9 times out of 10 get updates sooner, have more features, and are more customizable.

A lot on the newer features to android were on rooted phones months ago. As far as future releases though, who knows. It all depends on what changes google makes and the availible hardware.
