Frozen on lock screen?

    My Eris just froze on the lock screen. I had to take the battery out to restart it. This happen to anyone else?

    It's happened to me twice since I did the update. :icon_evil:

    Me too after update.

    I brought the phone back to Verizon and they gave me a new one. I only had it for a few days and they simply replaced it. I just got the update notice on the new phone and declined it.

    This just happened to my girlfriends eris as well. Did you drop it or did it just happen?

    You have to actually grab the grey bar and pull down now. You can't do it anywhere on the screen anymore. The menu button will also unlock the phone when it's awake.

    it happened to me today as well. I read a post from this forum where a person stated with the upgrade you can just press the end call button and it wakes the phone up, well did that and it froze...Had to pull the battery to fix it...

    Same thing twice now. No response anywhere on the screen or buttons. Had to remove battery as well.

    I noticed the change about having to grab the gray bar to unlock right after the update...thought something was wrong with my phone.

    I don't like it...wonder why it was changed?

    mine froze froze

    the gray bar didn't do anything
    even the clock stopped

    :icon_eek:

    just prior i had hung up from a call and the lock screen was on, then i heard the person still talking - they tried to hang up, but the call did not disconnect. then the phone froze.

    Same problem here since doing the upgrade. Looks like something got out of whack in the coding. Never had a freeze before the update; have had 3 in the past 24 hours since upgrade downloaded.

    My Eris locked up twice today after installing the update this morning. Had to do a battery pull so it could re-boot. :mad:

    The phone freeze on the lockscreen happened to me about an hour ago. Are we going to get official confirmation or word from HTC/Google about these issues happening after the update and older issues not really being fixed?

    Same here...

    Frustrating. The Spidey sense told me not to do the update but I did and now my phone has locked at least 3 times, all needing battery pulls.

    When these "lockups" occur, have you tried swiping JUST on on the gray unlock arch -instead- of swiping the whole screen?

    The old Eris firmware would unlock if you swiped anywhere on the lock screen and that's what I learned to do. After the update, I too thought my phone was locking up on me. Swiping on the top half of the new lock screen does -nothing- and looks like the phone has crashed. I then noticed that it worked "sometimes" and finally figured out that you have to touch the gray arch and then swipe it.

    Possible solution?

    Okay, after a lengthy talk with two HTC customer service reps (one was an uber-douche, the other was very pleasant), they want me to backup my contacts via HTC Sync, and then do a hard reset (Menu > Settings > Security > Factory data reset). They said this will restore to factory setting, unfortunately deleting all apps that I've downloaded along with all the hours of customization I've put into the phone. :mad:

    The helpful rep said that Verizon and Google are responsible for the coding errors, and that the reps didn't know that there was an over-air firmware update until this morning when they got in to work.

    I'll post again if this has solved the problem. In the meantime, if you haven't opted for the update, don't do it until Verizon/Google get the bugs worked out!

    Another voice crying out with the lock issue.....though mine does unlock after a minute or so. Seems to only happen when I am receiving a phone call and that minute feels like forever with the phone ringing anf ringing and......

    Problem fixed

    Okay, the "restore to factory settings" dance fixed the problem. It was a huge pain in the butt, but I backed up contacts, wrote down all the 50+ apps that I had downloaded to my phone, made notes of how things looked on each page, and then did the factory reset. 2+ hours later, I was laying in bed, barely awake, with a phone that worked just as well as before the faulty update. :clap:

    Hopefully, now, Verizon will have it logged in their database that I have received the update and won't send me the annoying update notification again.

    Whew... that is daunting! Well done!... following your lead, now I know how to prepare for a total restore - which sooner or later we all have to do it seems. :mad:
