I finally got the nerve and followed this guide last night. Worked like a charm, in fact, it was too easy(imo). I would like to note just like the author said to check sholes.info for the latest rom. In the guide he says to use 1.0.1 but the most recent one on their website is 1.1.

Also, on a side note, when viewing my 'About Phone', firmware version is at 2.0.1. Is this what is supposed to be listed? Sorry, this was my first attempt at rooting and I wasn't able to find anything along those lines in this thread.

Yes. 2.0.1 is the base firmware that you are running. It's just modified now with all the great stuff from the sholes rom.. Don't forget, now that you have sprecovery you can flash nearly any rom. Always make a backup first though!! I'm really lovin Pete's BB rom. Enjoy!

Hey guys. So I just tried to install the 1.0.1 version of the rom, and I still didn't get any options at the end. I'll try to upgrade when I get home, but I have my doubts that it will work.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure this isn't the right place to go but I was going to attempt to install the Bugless Beauty rom here at work...but I'm confused as to what to do? The files downloaded didn't come in as a .tgz so I don't want to just stick them on my root. Looks like I have some research to do.

this may be a dumb question, but how long does it take to download these files? I seem to be getting stuck around 5% and 13% on the update.zip and the ROM. Also when I click the flash image comes up as garbled text. Do you just copy that into a file or what? Sorry am totally new to all this and want to learn how this stuff works.

How long it takes depends on your internet connection and the size of the file. I had no problems downloading them to my computer last night(the server hosting the files could slow?). It's not required to open any of the files, just follow the instructions and you'll be alright. They tell you when and where to move the files. This was my attempt at rooting and installing a ROM. Worked like a charm.

With the flash image I don't have an option to save the file, am I just copying the shortcut or what? I'm sure I'm having a brain fart here but any help is appreciated.

I think it was the server, I did get an error saying server connection was reset a couple times.

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but my QWERTZ keyboard (german) Motorola Milestone doesn't enter the "boot" menu after being turned off, and started with 'x' and Power On.
    What I am doing is:
    1. I switch off the phone
    2. Open the keyboard
    3. Press 'x' and Power On
    4. I keep them both pressed
... and the phone starts normally. It shows the M sign on screen, then the android logo then it asks for the pin code.
I have tried with SIM card in, with SIM out, etc.
What am I doing wrong? Is this method only for Droid (US) phones?

Yes this is just for the american droid, I don't believe the milestone has been rooted yet.

Yup, I've just "educated" myself, it seems the two phones are different. There is a root for the european version, but it's 2.0, not 2.0.1
Also, there are no ROM's yet.
