The biggest reason for me rooting my Droid 1 phone earlier today was to eventually be able to move all apps to the SD card. I am always running near empty on memory (less than 40MBs) and my performance is terrible (I particularly hate the full minute it often takes for my desktop icons to come back). I was told you could do this with root access but have no idea how.

I already have the marketplace app "App 2 SD" which moves some apps but not nearly enough. How can I get all this stuff moved over to my SD card so I can have 100+ MBs free again?

So far I haven't done much with my root access other than installing Titanium Backup Pro and AD Free.

I believe there is NO way to move ALL your apps. Some apps are system apps and have to stay on the internal memory in order to function properly. I would like to move alot more apps to the SD card also but some are stuck on the system memory.

Also, any app that is a widget should not be moved to sd. You will lose the widget most likely or experience other issues.

It seems much of my stuff is games that do not have a move to sd card option; these are the ones I really want to focus on. I'm not talking about system apps, necessarily. If there's no way to do this it pretty much kills the whole point of rooting, in my opinion. The complete lack of App storage on the phone for the D1 is the biggest issue of the device.

Are you running a custom ROM or just stock+root? If just stock+root, I'm not sure how you would enable more movement of the apps. I believe at one time there was a terminal command for froyo that allowed for more apps2sd. If you are on a ROM, double check the specific settings for that ROM. Many of them have an option for apps2sd that allows you to move just about anything. And games are fine to move. I've never found any problems having mine on the sd.
EDIT: yeah, what Insane said at the same time as me in less words :)

personally for a good stable ROM that has all the features a rom should have and more, you can beat CyanogenMod 7.

CM7 has an option to move any app to the sd card. Under settings>cyanogenmod settings>application, then select "allow app moving". Under install location i recommend automatic. Do that and you'll never have to worry about storage space. Its best to get as many apps in the phone storage because it reads and writes faster than your sd card. Here are the links you'll need. CM7 ROM http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.0.2-Droid-signed.zip Google apps http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip. Flash the ROM first and then the gapps after. No need to reboot in between

Link2sd is what I use. Just on D1 make 2nd partition fat32 and it works great. I have around 190 free space on internal space available.

I looked up the Links2SD app and found this:

"Link2SD does not create the second partition, you need to create it yourself. You can use any partition manager such as Minitool, Paragon, Easeus etc. for this."
