free instant messaging?

    been digging around, can't find anything. is there any way to use windows messenger and gchat without paying text fees?

    those use data and not text, so you have nothing to worry about

    with regular phones you can have aim and such forward ims to you in the form of sms. i think thats what he means

    yeah, my last and previously most advanced phone was my samsung omnia. it charged im's as texts and the im was through verizon. so i'm good to go?! wow! this thing keeps getting better and better.

    Since you have the Droid it's a given you have a data package... so you won't be getting charged for using any IM service as texts. It will go through as data.

    well, i had the exact same data package with my omnia, but the only widgets were from verizon so it wasn't the same at all. i surfed the web alot, but the im's were charged as texts. nickle and diming, i suppose.

    any and every chance they get :)

    I'm not sure what's with the Omnia, but with the Droid the many choices for IM apps go thru data, so you should be good to go :icon_ banana:
