Recommend some apps to a poor newbie. I don't have any money to spend on apps and I want to dive into my droid head first. Can't afford to void my warranty so rooting is out of the question. coming from a blackberry and a die hard windows user, I have alot to learn. I know task killers are a big no-no.

What about Instant messaging apps, Will they kill the battery? What is my best GPS/Navigation app? I definitely need a flashlight app. Is there a better browser, etc? I see it comes with a stock data usage app, what is a good minute usage app?

I haven't done much playing with ANY android phones, but my Fascinate should arrive in 2 days, so treat me as a complete newbie with absolutely no knowledge. I am a fast learner though, so it should be fun.

For starters, I can suggest a few apps:

stock Maps/Navigation/Car Home apps for gps
Dolphin HD or Xscope for browsing, although stock browser is pretty decent
MotoTorch LED for Flashlight (Might not work with Fascinate)
Spare Parts to enable some hidden settings
    Rockplayer for playing any video
Launcherpro or ADW for smoother homescreens

If you want to root, there's some kick ass apps.

Problem is, I don't know any of those apps. none of those fit the list I had given.
