First time Rom Installer

Greetings,

I want to take the plunge and get away from the stock blur nonsense on my DroidX dancedroid, but I also don't want to do anything that I can't reverse if it goes badly. So lets say that after installing Liberty 1.5, there are issues of whatever nature that render the phone unusable.

Is there a way for me to return to the stock DX rom?

I just performed a backup using the Droid X Bootstrapper, is that my way back? Does that backup the entire phone, Android and all? Or does that just backup data?

Read all the sticky threads before you proceed and have everything you need to "SBF" recover your phone. Read about "ROOTING" using z4root app. Read about clockwork recovery. Once you have a core knowledge if these things and the files you need on your computer if things go south then and only then continue. Sitting there with a bricked phone and no clue isn't a fun place to be. All the info you need is at the top of the hacks and roms forums. Also youtube had videos flashing roms onto the x.
