After reading the threads in this forum then reading and visiting sites about rooting, last night at 11 PM EST, I finally rooted.

First, I want to thank Matth3W. I used his thread to root and install BB. Matt was a great help. I'm very appreciative of his thread and support!

I have the mike on the keyboard, browser does pinch and zoom, gallery has changed, I have weather and news widget, so it appears the install was successful but I wonder if I missed something or need to tweak.

When I turn my phone on, the home screen has no icons. If I swipe right, I now have previous icons. It my be my imagine but the screen movement seems laggy. If I do a left swipe it it really really laggy.

Using Matth3w's thread, I installed setCPU. I modified the settings as listed then rebooted.

    In phone settings it displays:
    Build number BuglessBeast 0.7.5
    Kernel version 2.6.29-omap1-hgb9fcgc3e9-dirtywalter@lanbox#45
    Baseband versionC_-1.3E.01P
    Firmware version 2.0.1
    Model number Droid

Thoughts on improving the screen movements are appreciated.

Whenever you installed the ROM, did you wipe your data?

No I did not see anything in the thread that said to wipe data. I just reread and did not see any instruction to wipe.

Perhaps I misunderstood but I thought that wiping was only necessary if I was switching roms (ex, BB to Sholes) Was I wrong?

Depends on what method you used. If you used the .update method than NO, you didn't need to wipe (as long as you came from a 2.0.1 ROM). If you did the nandroid backup that yes, you should have wiped. At this point you should wipe and use the nandroid backup just to be safe, after that you should be okay with .update method until Pete releases a 2.1 ROM.
    Follow his instructions:

I'm not sure how to respond -- because I'm thinking that I used both.

I used the update.zip to root and obtain SU permissions.
    Installed terminal emulator
Downloaded "flash_image" from download sholes info/flash_image
    Downloaded SPRrecovery
    Made internal drive writable
    copied flash_image to internal drive
    Downloaded virginoem-backup.zip and extracted files
Created folder on SD card called nandroid
    Copied virginoem-backup to nandroid folder
    Rebooted
    Selected backup/restore
    Selected advanced Nandroid backup
    Set backup name
    Performed backup
    Rebooted
    Deleted first update.zip file
    Downloaded BB from androidoverdrive.com/pete/version0.7.5 update.zip
    Copied update.zip to SD card
    Powered off
    Reboot into SPRrcovery
    Chose install
    Chose allow update.zip
    Chose install /sd/card/update.zip(deprecated)
    Chose reboot

    Does that help?

Well I think I've resolved the laggy swipe. I added widgets and/or shortcuts to every screen. This seem to have revolved my concern.

    I will keep playing.

Before I close, I want to again say how much I appreciated Matth3W's instructions and assistance while rooting.

For me, the best thing about this forum is the willingness of everyone to share and help

In between creating the backup and loading the update.zip, you should do a data/factory reset through nandroid. This will clear everything out. Then do the update.zip, back out to main screen of nandroid, and then do and advanced restore of just data from your backup. Again you shouldn't have to do that if this is the first time loading a new rom.

This was the fist time I loaded a custom rom so that is why I did not do a reset or wipe.

He should have been fine, he was coming from a completely unrooted stock phone. If you think he needs to wipe I can walk him through that if need be.
