I seem to have a problem, every once in a while my SD/phone doubles all files on it. Is this a rom issue or just me.

Also is there an app to help me remove doubled files?

    Thanks in advance!

Any screenies? people really don't know what they are supposed to be doing when they are in the dark!

you explained your problem well, but pictures may help! are you using the 3d gallery, or a 2d gallery like quickpic from the market?

I'm using the gallery included on Chevy's rom. I'm not really sure which one that is.

Also I have found where the duplicate files are they are under //mnt/sdcard
I have tryed to type this into root explorer and a regular file explorer and it can't find the //mnt.

Also with the screen shots I will try to upload them, but everytime I try to upload them the app force closes.

Oh, if you have a folder "mnt/sdcard" don't worry about that. I never quite understood that... but its supposed to be there...

My phone displays a //mnt and /mnt one which has 2 slashes and one that has 1 slash.

How are files doubled? When looking at SD while mounted through USB, can you see duplicates? From what I read here, it sounds like there could be a symlink/shortcut which appears to be a duplicate of the original. For example, the /mnt/sdcard appeared with froyo I think. Before, there was just /sdcard. Then again, I read that the duplicate files cannot be reached from a file browser? Back to my first question, how are we perceiving these duplicate files?

I don't have much to offer, just trying to understand, thanks.

Well through the gallery and through any music application I see 2 of every file.

Looking in Root Explorer or other file browser, what are the file permissions on the //mnt directory? Is that what it looks like? That's usually a network server share designation. I'm not aware if it means anything else in Linux.

Well I tryed just now to find the directory //mnt (as I have tryed before) and I can't find it. It seems to be invisible, or I just can't find it. But I can see when I select a song, let's say in poweramp, and press info it says (for example) //mnt/sdcard

Maybe you can change searchable folders in music app? Or specify where it looks?

Don't know what to say about gallery.

If the path exists, you should be able to navigate it with terminal emulator or adb shell (asdk).

There couldn't actually be dupes of all your files. There's got to be something related to shortcuts and the actual path being counted separately I'd suspect.

I have looked through the folders it searches. And set them to only one folder. (One named music)

I'm a hardcore noob when it comes to terminal so I would need a "for dummies" walkthrough. Lol

Did you change the settings before or after? Any change?

You can cd path to get around and ls to list contents:

    $ su
    # (root privileges; should see before following commands)
cd / (root, note the space)
    cd /mnt
    ls (will list dir contents)
cd sdcard (can use relative paths or absolute, specifying root to path)
    cd /mnt/sdcard

I can't remember, you may need busybox to 'ls' -- it may depend on your rom too.

    # busybox ls

Almost forgot, 'ls -l' (list long) to show permissions and other file properties.

So I followed all of your directions as shown. Nothing happened. But than when I typed in # busybox in
It said Aplet not found. Does that make a difference?

Oh sorry I'm not familiar with that error.

jrummy has a free busybox updater on the market that will make sure you have it installed and keep it updated if you want.

You said you had modified folder settings in your music app? I assume since the issue started, and did it make any difference?
