Earlier today it was reported that the method outlined in the video posted by Rootjunky yesterday on bypassing factory reset protection was patched in the Google's January security patch. AndroidPolice noted that Tom was running the December update in the video, and that the January security patch specifically patched this hack. I reached out to Tom who confirmed that he has tested the method on the January security patch update and knows it to be working.

He went on to add that even if Google does patch the current method in the next security patch he has other methods for achieving the same result that he will be saving until such a time. Apparently there are many holes in Google's Factory Reset Protection. He stated that one of his methods is much simpler, but requires an unlocked bootloader. If the device you are trying to bypass happens to be locked Tom has a way to unlock that bootloader so the exploit can be used. For the time being we will have a way to get past the factory reset protection.
