I owned a Global for 4 months. Battery on stock rom was TERRIBLE. I purchased an extended battery just to get throught the day with light usage. I made some changes that seemed to really help.
First, turn OFF the global radio. In the US, you do not need it. Second, turn off WiFi unless you need it, and third, update roaming using *228.
In my personal experience with the Global, turning off the second radio helped a bit, as did turning off Wifi (I was an android noob and did not know I needed to turn it off). Updating roaming also helped quite a bit as my global was trying to hit a tower farther away and spending more power to do it. With those options, I coasted throught a day on light usage.....
But eventually I did switch to a Droid X.
