Hey guys and girls :) i am having a problem with my exchange setup on my phone. i am sure it isnt my phone lol but i have a small buiness server 2003 with exchange ofcourse. Now when we setup the sbs server we named the domain a .local instead of a .com. But our email in the exchange config is a .com. Well just wanted to give a little back ground, the problem is it says failed to create the account please try again later

Can you give any more information? At what point during set up is it saying "failed to create account"?

I administer an exchange on a domain that uses .local but there is also a web presence linked to the internet domain for our website.

Exchange should be set up for web access and activesync

To set up my phone (moto droid) to work with my exchange
I went to the Corporate Calendar icon and input all my server info into it.

Put in your full email and password
On the next screen leave it as \yourdomainusername
on the server address you have to use the web access url (ex: mail.yourdomain.com)
For me I had to check both "Use secure connection (SSL)" and "Accept all SSL certificates"

Hitting next will connect you to the server.

i am using the manual setup and for email addy i am using my email ofcourse, server address i am using the same address i would use for my web access which is ported to the exchange server, the domain i am using my .local address, and username is my windows login and password. the username does not have a domain or address after it. i type all the info and the click next. It does the verifying address and wants me to select mail, contracts, and calendar. then i click finish setup it give the message failed to creat the account.

Sounds like something funky with the phone app itself.

Instead of setting it up through the email accounts icon, try it through the corporate calendar icon. If you go through that icon its automatically configuring it for exchange and might have some other differences on the back end that aren't seen.

I battled with this for several days and then found a reference to SP2 for Exchange 2003 - it is not an automatic update - you need to download it from MS - it enables push and lets 2003 communicate with Droids and Iphones etc. Once installed it worked instantly to my great relief.

Download details: Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2

Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) offers new features and improvements to Exchange Server 2003. New features include support for mobility and message hygiene. Improvements have been made to address performance and reliability with public folders and with database size restrictions.

New for mobility is direct push, which is an Exchange technology that maintains an open connection between the mobile device and the server. Remote wipe is another new feature, and it enables administrators to delete sensitive data from a lost or stolen mobile device. Other features include global address list (GAL) lookup, policy provisioning whereby administrators can make supported policies more secure, support for certificate-based authentication, use of S/MIME to sign and encrypt mail, and server-based synchronization of Tasks.

Anti-spam improvements are included in the release of the integrated version 2 of Microsoft Exchange Intelligent Message Filter, and Sender ID, which is an industry-standard framework. Version 2 of Intelligent Message Filter contains significant improvements in the anti-spam area for SP2.

For Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition, the hard-coded licensing database size limit has been increased from 16 GB to 75 GB. The administrator can set a protective database size limit (prevent unintentional database size growth). The default value will be 18 GB in SP2 for Standard Edition and the default can be changed.

Public folders are now more manageable. Administrators can now track who deleted public folders, stop and resume public folder replication, synchronize the public folder hierarchy, propagate access control list (ACL) changes through public folder hierarchy, and propagate replica list changes through the public hierarchy. Many of the improvements work toward minimizing the effect of replication storms.

There is a new version of the offline address book (OAB 4.0) that features the reduction in the OAB size, differential OAB update files, indexing based on locale setting, and improved diagnostic logging

Where did you install this update? I use exchange for my work email and would really like to get it working on my phone.

The Exchange server admins at your company need to install this on the server end. Unreal that some companies are still running exchange 2003 and haven't even installed SP2 yet. Good grief.
