So, I know it is almost too early to ask, but just to get the ball rolling.

    Root for ESE81?

Way too early to say, but we shall see, first Verizon has to not yank the release back like they have twice already, then they'll have to see if the update.zip exploit was patched and find a new way to root.

With ESE51 being rooted, I don't think rooting ESE81 will take much to do ourselves.

Seems like they would be shooting themselves in the proverbial foot by patching it. The 3rd party deveolpment is what is making the Android OS and the Doid such a success.

I read an article today that google is planning to make all their apps available through the market like they did maps, so we won't have to wait on the vendors in the future.
    Here's hoping it's true!

The race is on to the first stable ESE81 ROM. I have my suspicion who will be the first.

Be honest I don't see the appeal myself, we already have all improvements from motorola from the ese53 builds.

You can take google's build and add the ese53 hardware changes, which has already been done, all motorola did is assign it a unique build number.

I will be checking this thread out for it to be official that ese 81 has roots. I will not accept the ota until then (or another source leans to it having roots).

Even the old 2.0.1 rom builds(old as in like 3 weeks ago) still outrank this update imo.

I different kernel? A unique ROM created just for the Moto DROID. I see plent of appeal. And I've tried almost every ROM coming and going. Count me IN!

But it seems they found issues with it and delayed update in order to work on it then roll out ESE81.

I read something amongst the tons of things i've read today regarding ESE53 vs. ESE81 that VAGUELY alludes to ESE53's not being released having SOMETHING to do with Picasa. Perhaps the new Gallery wasn't properly syncing Picasa Web Albums?

Like I said, it was a pretty vague allusion, but it would make sense that that would be enough to delay it, since Picasa Web Album sync is supposed to be one of the big features of the new Gallery app.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ESE53 build if applied not through a ROM, has better voice quality.

We can assume it will also be in the official ESE81 release. Now the question remains, will ESE81 ROMs have the voice quality improvement or no.
