I just threw this together while in class because I know everyone is getting all excited over it for some reason lol.
It has proper root access and su will prompt you like it is supposed to.
This is in the form of an update.zip, it will also update your baseband.
Please post on other forums, website, etc.
Edit: If you are having issues wipe /data and try again.
I am too busy to try this on every single ROM available...

Note: This requires a modified recovery such as SPRecovery or ClockWorkMod Recovery; the stock recovery will fail the signature verification.

    Download Links: http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/ESE81/OEM/

Nandroid Backup Added! Must be used with clockwork recovery
Update.zip can be used with either recovery but needs to be renamed to update.zip to use SPRecovery

Help me live out my dreams to do this in the future.

So basically this is like the original stock 2.0.1 update.zip with root? Meaning, this is the official 2.1 OTA update with root?

Does this retain all apps/settings if coming from 2.0.1?

Hate to double post, but what to see that Pete gets this. Any idea if this will work with the clockwork recovery or is it only for sprecovery?

I installed his mod it runs great.

Just in case anyone was wondering. I just installed Chevy's low voltage 1.2Mhz 7-slot and it works fine so far.
    SetCPU says:
short bench is 200ms (4 test average)
long bench is 677ms (4 test average)
I ran the stress test for 5 minutes with no errors.
My temp peaked at 100.4 during the stress test. My idle is in the mid 90s.

    BAM!

These numbers are the same as my OC when I was running BB v0.9.

Hmm, ok. But why would you want to change/update your baseband? What are the benefits of doing it?

Battery life may be one benefit and signal quality. RolaDroid, did you do that update.zip while on CM?

EDIT: Nevermind I see it works with CM. Thanks RD!! Hmm I see Pete's BFF is in here, lol wonder why.
