    Just tried to load my first rom yesterday. Had everything ready and followed the steps and while trying to install PE4 it aborted. Luckylily I'd made all the necessary preparations and had my nandroid backup but could someone tell me what I need to do to fix this (status 7) error please.

    I've searched for an answer for you and one of the best references I found was about a Nexus 1 that was getting your error message:

    "From the error your getting it looks like you modified the phone's boot partition (custom kernel maybe?) When the updater applies the update it first checks to make sure the old version of the file matches Google's official code. This is to protect your phone from being bricked."

    Here's another good hit about an Incredible:

    "Install from sdcard
    Finding update package
    opening update package
    installing update
    assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop". robuild.fingerprint")
    == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ere27/161494:user/release-keys" ||
    file_getprop("/system/build.prop". robuild.fingerprint")
    == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ere27/203589:user/release-keys"
    E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
    (status 7)
    Installation aborted

    I definitely found a way to fix this Status 7 error. After using PB31MG to go back to stock, make sure you reboot, then install the REGULAR update from verizon that will pop up (it will ask you if you want to install it, SAY YES!) , then reboot again, THEN remove PB31MG from your sd card, put the OTA update.zip on, THEN install that update.zip that is the OTA. I read this at XDA. you're welcome everyone."

    Ok, that sounds just like what happened to me. If it helps, before trying this I was running the new stock OTA update on my new droid X. It is rooted usind the z4 easy root app and the rom was the Droid X load of "Project Elite v4" . If there is anymore info needed please tell me. I appreciate any help.

    Guys,

    PEv4 is NOT available for the X...if that's what you're trying to boot it on, as your signature and posts clearly suggest, you're not going to get it to work! Hope that helps...
