eris sending message back saying it cant disply multi media files

When ever I send a text message to my daughters Droid Eris I get this message back:: Message Delivered to 9419321070 as plain text Destination does not support enhanced messaging service.
And the message I send, depending on the length, gets broken up on her phone into multiple parts. What the hell is going on? Can anyone help us?

Well you just gave out your daughter's number you may want to edit your post there.

Are you using the stock messaging app or a 3rd party from the market?

And anything over 160 characters will get broken into multiple messages. An SMS is limited to 160 each
