    New OTA: EE4 - Tons of Fixes - xda-developers

Just figured I would mention it. Looks to make quite a few changes but haven't heard any confirmation of hotspot fix (although I would assume it would be).

If anyone is interested the update has been uploaded to the web...

    http://www.mediafire.com/?p5s3ayddcp2vspd

I have manually updated and all is well :)

    UPDATE:

If you are impatient you can perform the following steps to manually update your charge to the OTA EE4 version.

1.) Download the update from the link provided above
2.) Rename the file to update.zip and move it to the root of your SD card
3.) Restart your phone and at the Samsung logo screen press and hold VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER until you see the Recovery mode screen
4.) Use the volume rockers to select SD Card update.zip and press the home button
5.) Wait for roughly 5-10 minutes while the update is performed.
6.) Phone should auto-reboot and take about 1-2 minutes to complete booting to your homescreen
    7.) Enjoy!

I take no responsibility for anyone bricking their phone by using recovery boot...

WOW!!! Very sweet! I'm hoping this fixes much of the connectivity issues so many of us have had. I'm also hoping this improves the 3G sensitivity of the phone when in a 3G area. I'll wait for the actual update, but I'd love to hear from anyone that forced the update.

P.S. Does anyone know how to confirm the update has taken place. Is there somewhere to go in to the 'settings' to verify the software version and what it should read?

Yeah, I'm still on ED1. Do you live in an area with both 3G and 4G? It appears that's where the biggest improvement will be as the phone will improve in its ability to switch from one to the other.

Glad it's coming out soon. It was bothering me to see my date still being a month late for it to work. Thanks!

update was waiting for me when i woke up this morning.
it did fix the hotspot issue, other than that i dont know.

edit: i was wondering, if you dont take the update, how long we could keep back dating and get free hotspot before they start charging anyways.
    just a thought...

if you manually install it, if another update comes out, will you be able to take the official update?

Edit: I mean if you manually install this will you be able to get future ota updates?

Yea so after running for about a day with the update I don't believe that I am actually seeing a difference in reception but rather having that extra tick on the reception tab just makes me think I am getting more... lol

At any rate phone is back to batt hogging. Its so weird though how it can consume so much data in the background sometimes (with all syncing turned way down and ALL non-essential apps killed) yet I can stream slacker for an hour on 4g and burn half as much.

I almost believe my phone is just getting bored not doing anything in my pocket and deciding to just burn battery life for fun... Sneaky bugger...

I downloaded the update zip in the first post and applied it--worked like a champ.

The only odd thing was getting into recovery--I kept holding the three keys down, and it cycled thru SAMSUNG->blank screen several times. I finally let go, and there was the recovery menu! :icon_rolleyes:

    Thanks!

My phone is not rooted and the instructions for the update worked well for me. Thanks zerosignal0!

Hopefully the patch has fixed the bluetooth connectivity problems.
