So, I'm going to try and ask this as clearly as possible: say I had a phone with a 1ghz dual-core processor. If it's a 1ghz dual core processor, is it 2 1ghz processors in one, or is the processor simply clocked to 1ghz and the dual-core allows for separate caches? Basically, 1ghz dual-core = 2ghz processor? This has been bugging me for a while and I've tried to find out as much as I could. Thanks

I'm pretty sure a 1ghz dual core processor means there are 2 1ghz cores

While dual core is faster, it is not twice as fast as single core. You still have to get the data in and out of the chip through the shared bus.
