I was wondering if anyone flashed a droid (1, 2, inc., or X) to Cricket Wireless or Straight Talk and if so how were your results? I love the fact that these companies offer such a cheap plan, but don't want to sacrifice the quality of service. I tried doing some searches on this, but didn't come up with much. I mostly see assumptions and not real comparisons.

    Thanks

I have flashed a Droid A855 to use on another carrier. It was a horrible pain in the *** to get working and you MUST have knowledge of QPST and HWVSP in order to make it work. Unless you consider yourself an enthusiast and you know what those programs are I wouldn't even try it.

Besides, the phone is only part of the equation. The location and power of your providers towers is what's going make/break having good service. I've noticed my Droid is no better or worse than most handsets on the network.

Straight Talk requires you buy the phone from them/Walmart. They will not support porting any handset in, and even if you manage to get it hooked into their system there will be no way to add time to the phone without doing very illegal things.

Also, Straight Talk is limited to 1x data transfer rates. Sloooooooooooooooooow.
