Droid X2 works, but screen stays in static

My boyfriend has the Droid X2, he's had it for about a year
Today, he looked at it, and the screen was frozen on static
He took the battery out, hit each button on the bottom, hit the lock button, put the phone on the charger while it was off and while it was on
Nothing has fixed this problem
When he turned the phone back on after taking the battery out, we heard the start-up "droid" and the turn on sounds, then his notification sound played, so the phone itself is working, but the screen is frozen on static

Is there anyway to fix this?

Have you tried doing a force restart while the battery is still in the phone?
I'm not sure how to do it on the X2, but I know on the RAZR you hold down the volume button at the same time as the power button.
If nothing else, take it to your local Verizon store. Let them deal with it xD
