Droid X docking mode

Is there a way to manually put your phone into car dock mode? Reason being, I don't drive all that often (live in the city) and don't feel a need to buy a car dock at 50 bucks at a clip. So, I was wondering if you could download an app or manually elect a setting to put it in that mode..
