Droid X Ad-hoc wireless (or equivalent)

Hello,

I have read a lot of threads on the Droid X and lack of Ad-hoc network support.

I am looking for a solution so that I can sync my phone with my notebook via Wi-Fi when away from my home network.

My notebook runs Windows XP and supports G and -N standards.

I wondered if there was a way to hack the Droid X configuration to correct this shortfall or if there are programs either for the Droid or the PC to facilitate a network connection?
