Is the Droid phone able to function without Verizon cellular? In other words other than not using it as a phone can you still use the wireless to connect to the market, utilize GPS and other features without having cell service? I am looking to cancel my Verizon contract but would like to use the phone still similar to an itouch/mp3 player.

    Thank you

One word YES. I have it in a foreign country on a different network but had it for a month before it was on a service and only used it over wifi for market and stuff

You won't have GPS unless you are on wi-fi though, so keep that in mind, there's no way to make that work without using the wireless router towers since you won't have a GPS satellite dedicated through verizon anymore
