I just got a Motorola Droid with 2.1 firmware the other day. I installed sprecovery and rooted the phone.

I am trying to install a rom that will let me use the wifi tether. The stock 2.1 firmware does not have NetFilter in it and so it won’t run.

I tried installing trummy cyan rom, but when I try to do the install it says it cannot locate the update.zip file. I can see the update.zip in the /sdcard root with a file manager I downloaded and it is not .zip.zip.

    Any ideas?

You say you have the OTA 2.1. If this is true then you are not successfully rooted and this would prevent you from being able to install CyanogenMod or any other ROM. 2.1 has not been rooted yet. You need to come from 2.0.1 and install a ROM based off the OTA.

ok then you could always download rom manager thru the market and try installing it thru there with the update.zip...there is a free version and a paid the free version you could download cm 5.0.6.2 and it has wifi tether added n the rom....or the paid version has jrummy"s rom and a bunch of others plus other goodies

you might try rom manager/clockwork recovery if your using the update.zip method that recovery tool works better with that method and you will need to do a data wipe moving to a CM based rom

did you use the spf rooting method?

    WRONG!

Too many experts on these forums.

    OP,

You installed SPRecovery using RSD Lite, right? You also installed Busy Box and Superuser.apk, right?

If so you can use WiFi Tether. Just search for Barnacle on The Market. It's free and it works with a 2.1 OTA rooted phone. You do not need a custom ROM. Stick with the OTA ROM.

I would also suggest running an overclock kernel. I use Adamz low voltage at 800 mhz. And my WiFi tether works flawlessly! I can't get it to work with a wep code but the developer of Barnacle swears I am typing the wep key incorrectly.

It is the stock 2.1 that came from Verizon 2 days ago. I would be ok with goind back to 2.0.1 if I can get a rom that will give me the multitap and such..

I have the paid version of rommanager but you can use the free version to see if you like it....you just dont get to use all the options that the paid version provides...
