Droid useful without cell service?

    Can an older Droid still be used (via wifi) to download apps from the app store, even though the phone is not configured with a cell carrier?

    Yes. I still use my Droid around the house ocassionally. On wifi it will do everything except make calls (well I guess you could use one of the internet calling services??). It goes on all my fishing trips (actually on almost all trips of any kind) as a backup/spare.

    They also make pretty good media devices if you don't mind carrying a second phone. I still have my of droid as backup
