Took the family to the Sarasota Showfolks Circus last night. We live in Ruskin about 30mi north of Sarasota. Now my dad and I have been to the Robarts Arena many times, but becasue he was driving I was playing with the DROID and did the NAVIGATE TO ROBARTS ARENA SARASOTA found the address but when I looked at the route there was yellow and red on the map near Ellenton. SO we took a alternate route US301, when we got back on I75 you could see the south bound lanes were shut down.

Found out later there was a fatal crash and two were air-lifted out.

We got to the show on time, come intermission moe people were showing up telling about the horrible delay on I-75

    I love my :motdroidvert:

I would swap that Droid out ASAP and get another one. GPS has been steller all over the Tampa area. I live in Ruskin my work office is in St Pete.

Get 3g all over the bay area with no problems

not a single person who HAD ALLTEL, has working gps
    that's the problem
even though verizon is my carrier...
my old phone number has a PRL that tells the phone to look for ALLTEL towers FIRST, therefore not allowing me to utilize agps data

thousands of folks are affected in the greater tampa bay area
verizon is doing nothing (ostensibly) to fix it
    very sad, indeed

As a Ex Altell customer, all we did was get new phones, make sure that Verizon changed us over to their plan, we all kept the numbers we had before. My GPS works fine, got the Blackberry Storm after the change over. Better after everyone changed phones and the account was setup as a Verizon account.

    OUCH

I'll ask the wife about that. She works for VZW. And I work for Brighthouse, we live off the perks of the job :p

Brighthouse: Free Digital Cable, Roadrunner and $20 home phone
VZW: we have 5 phones for like $110

    Perks baby! :icon_ banana:

I live in Ruskin - across the interstate for the National Weather Service office. So if you see the radar on the local news, the center of that spoke is my house.

I'm stuck on the Sun City Center side of the interstate and sometimes the GPS for the weather calls me Sun City which I dont like, I'm not a Old Fart yet! But I spend my life avoiding them in their cars.

i hope he's seen the 20 page..... 2nd-longest thread here.... already
    but....
i've gone RIGHT TO THE TOP of the food chain for verizon tech...
like most folks here who've spent hours and hours on the phone with verizon

    some will 'admit' the problem
but.... i'm not convinced ANYONE is doing ANYTHING to fix it, at THIS point

We are in Arkansas, and yes, I was informed that even though I had a Verizon phone, until the account was changed over I wouldn't get all the benefits of the phone.

    how stupid is that?
we are paying verizon the same amount as the "OLD VERIZON CUSTOMERS"
we paid just as much for the phone
    so.....
    what is the difference?

    oh...
    by the way
i give them 2-3K/month more of my money, anyway
T1 for my office phone system, etc
    so....
it isn't like they don't get PLENTY of my money every single month
    verizon is ridiculous
    and.... this remains embarrassing

As another guy from Arkansas once said "I feel your pain " I'd just got the HTC Touch Pro a month before the merger. Full price and accessories over $700.00 and now I'm looking into changing the ROM so at least I can give it to someone. Already giving the Storm as a Christmas present.

Also from the bay region (Brandon). Great to hear that others in my area are loving and making use of this sweet device!
Last weekend I went out to celebrate a bday party in clearwater. I'm unfamiliar with the area and I was running late, I simply held the search, said navigate to arigato japanese in clearwater and bam, had voice gps leading the way. Same night we wanted to go to a martini bar for after party, we drove circles around clearwater in our convoy, I voice searched with navigate to and I lead the way thanks to droid's google maps! Thank you google

That would be a huge issue - the Droid and many of the apps I have installed on it are VERY location aware and need the GPS for a quick fix.

Sounds like there is a VZW Database of subscribers and a Alltel database of subscribers and they have not fully merged in reguards to all the features like GPS and the PRL that tells the phones how and where to look.

Have them cancel your account and create a new one, it would be a VZW, dunno if it would create a problem moving the phone number(s) around.

I'll ask the wife tonite.....will probobly get a blank stare :icon_eek:

you are correct in this assumption
almost every app i want and need completely depends upon ACCURATE GPS LOCALIZATION to be effective

i am being changed over to a verizon account tomorrow
while keeping my same phone number
i'll let you know how it goes

    i'm CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC
