I cant seem to root this verizon droid build FRG83D Version 2.2.1...
None of the one click methods work
Best way is link one in my sig
Sent from my Droid using DroidForums App
there is only like 2 ways to root the frg83d update. you can use rsdlite to SBF back to a previous version like frg22d or you can download superoneclickroot http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10868571/SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse.zip and use that to root. I have tested it and it works just fine (you may have to disable usb debugging, but thats no big deal)..
that is a windows program, if you ave a mac, i cannot help...
i cant get the program to locate the phone...windows 7 os.
You unzipped the file and ran superoneclick.exe file while the phone was booted up normally (not in recovery, and not in the bootloader)?
Like I said before, you may or may not have to have usb debugging on (menu > settings > applications > development, try it with it checked.. it it isnt working, try it with it unchecked..
Do you have the correct driver installed also? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10868571/USB_Drivers_32_bit_4.2.0.zip for 32 bit and http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10868571/USB_Drivers_64_bit_4.2.0.zip for 64-bit
after the phone is rooted, you will have to download Rom Manager to flash a recovery (clockwork or SPRecovery)
In all honesty, you're going to have to provide more details than that, please, as there's been a few different methods posted here so far. So which method are you using? What program is not seeing your phone?
Also, some have said that z4root still works as well and you don't need a computer. I have it in my collection linked in my sig.
Oh and BTW you DO have to have usb debugging on for super one root and/or z4root to work as they both use the RATC attack to root your phone.
A lot of people have had a problem with the OTA screwing up the root. I don't think anyone asked but were you rooted before? Or are you trying to root this version of Android? It seems that way, so you could try a complete factory reset and that might remove the update. Root from there, block the OTA when it tries to install and put a ROM like BB V.06.1 on the phone to eliminate the OTA problem. This process would kinda bypass the whole FRG83 problem. Good luck dude
First thing, thanks for the help.... second, this phone has never been rooted and I tried Z4 debug on and off...sometimes goes for a cople mins and then just stops? on win 7 super root and the rte lite wont find my phone thru usb? i am thinking removing the update sounds really smart?
anything else you guys can think of? I want to get a virgin mobile $25 unlimted date plan and root there droid phone to do wifi tether for my google fake ipad wifi...
btw....how do i do the right reset?
Do you have the drivers installed on your computer? That would be one place to start.
no i didnt install anything new? i have windows 7
Well, if you don't have the proper drivers installed on your PC, you'll never be able to do anything besides xfer files to and from the sdcard on your phone. You can get the drivers for your pc several different ways. Google is your friend. Or look at the droid files link in my sig. Or davers72 even linked you to the drivers.
good luck as I feel you're really going to need it. . . .
